CCATS (Carey/Canning Athletics Training Squad) is a unique squad that aims to marry potential and opportunities through commitment and hard work.
Students from Carey Baptist College train along side athletes from Canning Districts Athletics Club and both mutually benefit from shared resources, coaches and experiences.
It is expected that athletes commit themselves to a minimum of 2 training sessions a week and work to the best of their abilities towards personal goals.
Many opportunities are available to athletes who show commitment and hard work including year round training with expert coaches alongside some of the states best athletes, regular summer competitions through Athletics WA, USA athletics tour held every two years, annual Geraldton Athletics Training Camp, competing in the State School Knock Out Athletics Carnival which our senior school boys team placed second and qualified for nationals last week. Last week we had Coach White, formerly sprint coach at Stanford University run a session for the squad.
The most exciting opportunities have arisen from our partnership with the Carey Right Track Foundation as they use athletics as a tool to build community, purpose and opportunity for rural, remote and aboriginal youths. Trips such as the Remote Schools Clinics and Banksia Hill Detention Center Athletics program are wonderful ways to serve through a sport that has blessed us so much.
