Carey Harrisdale 2018 Leadership Team

On behalf of the Governors’ Council I am pleased to formally announce the leadership appointments for Carey Baptist College Harrisdale.

In 1998 Carey Harrisdale opened its doors to a cohort of approximately 70 students, and over the last 20 years has grown in size and reputation.  Carey is now an experienced education provider and has also expanded to include a new campus:  Carey Baptist College Forrestdale, which is also developing in exciting ways.

Given the significant growth across the two schools, the Governors’ Council saw the need to review and restructure the leadership arrangements.  This was done to ensure that we continue to grow, maintain our core values and pursue excellence in our educational delivery.

Executive Principal
I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mrs Jennifer Argue as the inaugural Executive Principal of the Carey Baptist College campuses.  The role of Executive Principal will enable a greater focus and leadership across K-12 planning and increased strategic educational thinking at a cross campus level. Mrs Argue has worked extensively in both the public and independent education sectors, across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.  She has a Masters Degree in Organisational Leadership and is on the National Board of Christian Schools Australia (CSA).  Mrs Argue has been on a number of other Boards and is a highly respected educational leader in Australia. As the foundation Principal of our Primary School Harrisdale campus, Jennifer has been instrumental in developing Carey’s approach to education over the past 19 years. She is an outstanding person to take on the overarching leadership role for both campuses.

Primary Principal Harrisdale Campus
Ms Kellie Newbold has been appointed as the Principal for the Primary School.  Also a foundation staff member, Ms Newbold has been the Assistant Principal Curriculum for the past 15 years, and was appointed the Acting Principal during Semester 2 this year. Ms Newbold has been instrumental in the development of our support programs for struggling and gifted learners, establishing our Early Learning Centre, implementation of National Quality Standards and the Australian Curriculum, as well as leading our annual School Improvement Planning process.

Ms Newbold is an exceptional educator and seasoned leader, bringing a wealth of experience to the role.

Secondary Principal Harrisdale Campus
Mr Brenden Gifford has been appointed as the Principal for the Secondary School.  Mr Gifford has been a member of the College for 20 years and has served in a number of roles including Year Manager, Head of Department, Dean of Curriculum and more recently as the Acting Principal.  Mr Gifford is an outstanding leader and educator with a Masters Degree in Educational Management (UWA) and a Bachelor of Ministry. A part of the Carey church community that initially founded the College, Mr Gifford has a deep understanding of the mission and heart of Carey.

A Bright future
As a Governors’ Council, we have full confidence in this leadership team, who have each played a significant role in the shaping and fulfilment of our vision so far. We look forward to partnering with you, our valued Carey families, as we continue the development of our growing campus.

Please join me in congratulating Mrs Argue, Ms Newbold and Mr Gifford in their new roles.

Yours sincerely

Dr Graeme Cross
