Former Student Flying High!

Former Carey Baptist College Captain, Megan Thompson is now a pilot with Virgin Airlines!

Megan studied Politics, Law, History, English Literature, Physics and Mathematics here at Carey in 2010 with a plan to attend Law School at UWA. However, for her 18th birthday, Megan’s parents paid for her to take a trial flight and from that moment on she knew it was how she wanted to spend the rest of her life. To pursue this passion, Megan applied and was accepted into the Virgin Australia Pilot Cadetship in Adelaide.

With no aviation background, just a willingness to learn and a passion for flying, Megan excelled in her training and is now an ATR 72 1st Officer, even meeting Virgin Founder Sir Richard Branson along the way!

“I know this is what I am meant to be doing,” Megan said. “I love my job and love going to work every single day”.  Her advice to present students is “it’s okay to not fully know your career path and where you want to be in 10 years time.  It’s also okay to change your mind along the way, just think about whatever brings you the greatest joy in life and start there.”

Great advice from Megan.  We hope she will be piloting a flight we are on one day.
