State competition winners

Earlier this year the Primary English Enrichment students entered stories they had written into the Children’s Book Council of WA’s Make Your Own Story Book Competition. This year across the 4 age categories more than 900 entries were received. We are very pleased to announce that two students from Carey won 1st prize in their age groups. Congratulations to Daniel Kurian and Sascha Papadopoulos.

Of Daniel’s story, Lost and Found, the judges said, “Daniel displays confidence in working with language to create an emotive story with strong characters and story line. The plot is clear and well structured and has a satisfying and authentic conclusion.”

Of Sascha’s story, Chiro and the Worry Mice, they said,  Sascha’s storyline is very imaginative and creative. The language is descriptive and Sascha uses a wide range of vocabulary to evoke the reader’s sense. Mice that ‘popped like strawberry smelling bubbles’ painted a startling picture.”

All of the books that received awards will be on display at the City of Perth library for 3 weeks.

We are so proud of both Daniel and Sascha and extend our congratulations to them, their families and Primary Enrichment teacher Jennifer Leach.
